China Geo-Engineering Corporation was established in 1982 with the approval of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. After Decades corporate operation in Rwanda, it has grown to become the major developer of marshland and water supply/drainage systems in the country. Working closely with Rwanda’s MINAGRI for marshland management & irrigation projects and with MININFRA for water supply projects, currently ChinaGeo is staffed with 500 people in Rwanda, 95% of them locals, and has played a crucial role in the country’s boost.
ZHU Xinghui, Director General of ChinaGeo Central-East Africa Branch, points out that the company has completed several projects with financial supports from EU, ADB, WBG and GoR. ChinaGeo has also implemented a polytechnic school in Musanze funded by the Chinese government.
ChinaGeo is currently involved in two irrigation projects in Rwanda and continues to gain projects in Rwanda as well as in neighbouring countries. ZHU Xinghui says, “We are trying to promote some projects like marshland management, dam construction, irrigation and water systems with financial supports from Chinese government or banks. We are also looking into opportunities in solar power as our parent company CECEP is one of the experts in China. ChinaGeo is committed to high standards in all its projects and to support Rwanda’s on-going flourish. We are definitely positive about Rwanda’s future.”
